Where to find your Instagram reposts
ยท Ethan Parker, Editor
Your reposts sit on a tab of their own on your profile, never in your grid. How to open that tab, and where story reshares and message sends go instead.
Your reposts live on a separate Reposts tab on your own profile, not mixed into your grid. It sits in the same row of small icons as your grid and your tagged posts, and it holds only the posts you pushed with Instagram's repost button.
That last part is the carve-out, and it covers most of what people mean when they say repost. A post you added to your story, a post you sent to someone in a message, and a post you downloaded and uploaded again are three different actions kept in three different places. None of them land on that tab.
The mechanic takes five seconds. Open your profile, look at the row of icons above your posts, and tap the repost icon, the one drawn as two arrows chasing each other in a loop. If that icon is not in the row, either you have not reposted anything with the button or your app does not have the button.
Everything below is the rest of it: what to do when the tab is missing, and where the other kinds of reshare are filed.
Where does the Reposts tab sit on your profile?
Tap your own picture in the bottom bar to open your profile. Scroll past your bio and highlights until you reach the thin row of icons that divides your bio from your posts. That row usually starts with the grid icon, then reels, then the repost icon, then the tagged icon. Tap the repost one and the squares below it change to the things you have reposted, newest first.
Instagram has moved this row around between app versions, and not every account gets a change on the same day. So do not trust any article about the exact position, this one included. Look at your own row of icons and count what is actually in it. That check is faster than reading about it, and it is the only version that is true for your phone today.
Why is there no Reposts tab on my profile?
A missing tab is usually not a fault. Four ordinary things explain nearly all of it.
- You have not reposted anything yet. The tab is not shown until there is something in it, so a new account or a careful one simply has no tab.
- Your app does not have the repost button. It arrived on different accounts at different times, and some accounts still do not see it. Why the repost button is missing goes through the reasons.
- Your app is out of date. Updating it is the cheapest thing to try, and it costs you nothing but a minute.
- You are on the desktop site rather than the phone app. Check the app before you conclude the tab does not exist.
Where does a post you shared to your story go?
Story reshares are not on the Reposts tab and never were. A story runs for 24 hours and then leaves your profile on its own.
To find one afterwards, open your profile, tap the menu at the top right, then Archive, then pick the stories archive from the selector at the top of that screen. Everything you posted as a story is there in date order, including the ones that were reshares of somebody else's post. If you saved one into a highlight, it is also sitting under your bio where anyone can reach it.
One honest catch: the archive only holds stories if archiving was switched on when you posted. If it was off, the story is gone and nothing recovers it.
Where does a post you sent in a message go?
Nothing you send in a message touches your profile, so there is no tab to look on. Open your inbox, search for the person or group you sent it to, and scroll the chat back to it. That is the only copy there is.
The account that made the post sees your send counted as a share on their own post, and never sees your name against it. That is why a share count can climb while the creator has no idea who moved it.
Where does a post you downloaded and posted again go?
That one is in your grid with everything else you have published, because it is not a repost at all. It is a new post of yours that happens to contain someone else's picture, with your caption on it and its own set of numbers. The five kinds of reshare are laid out side by side in where reposts show up on a profile, if you are not sure which one you did.
Can other people see your Reposts tab?
Yes, if your account is public. The tab is part of your public profile in the same way your grid is, so anyone who opens your profile can tap it and read the list. On a private account, only your approved followers can.
The tab is a list of what you reposted. It is not a list of who reposted you, which is a separate question with a much less satisfying answer.
How do you take one of your reposts down?
This is the most common reason people go looking. Open the Reposts tab, open the post you want gone, and tap the repost icon on it a second time. The highlight switches off and the post drops off your tab. Undoing a repost is a two-tap job, and the post itself is never yours to remove.
Taking your repost down does nothing to the original. The creator's post, its caption and its numbers all carry on exactly as before.
What the Reposts tab does not do
There is no search box inside it, no filter by account, and no way to jump to a date. It is a plain list in reverse date order, so a repost from four months ago means scrolling to it. There is no export either. If you repost a lot, the practical answer is to search the creator's profile instead and find the post from their side.
What does your repost do for the post you reposted?
A repost is a pointer, not a copy. The item on your tab still points at the original file on the original account, which is why the views, likes and saves that arrive through it are counted over there rather than on your profile. That is worth knowing before you treat reposting as a way to fill your own page.
Does a paid month help you find your reposts?
What we sell is one prepaid month of engagement on the posts you publish yourself. You pick the least and the most reach a post of yours should get, hand over your public username, and every feed post and reel you publish over the next 30 days, up to 30 posts, is aimed inside that band. One PayPal payment, no account and no password, and nothing renews at the end.
ReachGrows delivers reach, views, likes, shares, reposts and saves. It does not touch Instagram Stories. It does not deliver followers, and it does not deliver comments, so a month changes what your own posts get and leaves the rest of your account alone.
It also does nothing at all for the problem this page is about. A paid month never puts anything on your Reposts tab, because that tab only lists what you reposted. Finding your old reposts is housekeeping, and housekeeping is free. The FAQ has the full list of what is included and what is not.
- Where are my Instagram reposts? On a Reposts tab on your own profile, in the same icon row as your grid, never mixed into the grid.
- Why is there no Reposts tab? Either you have not reposted anything with the button yet, or your app version does not have the button.
- Where do story reshares go? Into your stories archive after 24 hours, if archiving was on. They never appear on the Reposts tab.
- Can other people see the tab? Yes on a public account. It is part of your public profile, like your grid.
- Can I search inside the tab? No. It is a plain reverse-date list, so an old repost means scrolling to it.
- Does removing my repost hurt the original? No. The original post and its numbers are untouched.
